Here at Kellyville pets we want all pets to live the happiest life possible. Re-creating a reptiles natural environment is the easiest way to keep our pets enclosures looking pretty and interesting but also providing our pet reptiles with plenty of places to hide, climb and enjoy their home.
We have artificial plants, logs, fake animal skulls, vines and docks for turtles available online and in-store to provide your reptile with environmental enrichment.
Artificial plants provide your pet reptile with somewhere to hide from predators (even though we know they are safe in their tank). Different fake plants can be used for individual reptile environments, for example cactus can be used in desert reptile set ups or denser, green, fake plants can be used in rainforest reptile environments.
Fake plants recreate a reptiles natural environment making them feel safe and comfortable, even reptiles born and raised in captivity will benefit from fake plans as they naturally feel more comfortable being less exposed as the artificial plants give some cover from above.
Fake plants can also go underwater without becoming damaged, making artificial plants perfect for turtle tanks.
Artificial plants in reptile tanks also give food items somewhere to hide, for example crickets or live fish can hide in the fake plants meaning the lizards and turtles have to move leaves or branches to find their food. This will keep your reptiles brain active and prevent your reptile from becoming overweight.
Caves, logs and skulls-
Caves are a great place for reptiles to rest. Caves provide adequate protection and are available in a range of cave sizes to accommodate any sized reptile.
Artificial tree logs are another fantastic place for reptiles to hide and feel safe, logs are made to look as realistic as possible but are made from top quality plastic and will not fall apart of degrade in your tank.
Fake skulls are a great hiding place with lots of holes for reptiles to check out their environment from the comfort of a protective animal skull. As skulls can be found in the wild they can mimic the natural environment of a reptile.
It is important not to use any logs or skulls found in the wild for your reptile enclosure as real skulls can carry worms if animal flesh is not completely degraded and logs can bring mites into your reptile enclosure that may be hiding under the bark.
Water-proof reptile vines are bendable, twistable life-like vines with a natural feel and look and can be twisted together with vines of different sizes to create a 3-D habitat. Vines are a great enrichment for reptiles or amphibians as they can safely climb the vine for enlargement of the reptiles dwelling area. Exo Terra Jungle Vines can be used for decorative purposes or for practical purposes.
Grapewood is similar to vines as it can be used to increase living area and give arboreal species room to climb to the tops of their tanks and utilize as much space in the reptile enclosure as possible.
The difference being that Grapewood is made of a natural, mite treated material that is safe to put in a reptile tan. Grapewood, is a heavy duty vine that cannot be bent of change shape. Finding the correct piece for your tank is important as it can be difficult to cut to size.
