French Bulldog Breed Information:

The French Bulldog originates from France and was originally bred as a Toy Bulldog.
Many Frenchies are very friendly, while others are politely reserved. Also be prepared for snorting, snuffling, and flatulence, as these go with the territory of short-faced breeds.

Being a brachycephalic breed that is fairly short and compact, the “Frenchie” is prone to the associated problems these conformational characteristics will bring. A new owner should be prepared for such abnormalities, should they arise.

Family Suitability:

French Bulldogs are suited to any family. As they do not require much exercise, they are fine to live in houses with small backyards or even apartments. Their kind and gentle nature means they are fantastic around children of all ages, which is one of the reasons they have quickly become one of the most popular dog breeds in Australia.

French Bulldog Size:

Height: 28-35cm, Weight: 10-15kg

French Bulldog Life Span:

9-12 years

French Bulldog Temperament:

The French Bulldog is a playful, alert and affectionate breed. They are enthusiastic, curious, sweet and have a very comical personality. They fit well into a family environment and get along well with other dogs and household pets, given they have been well socialised as a puppy. French bulldogs are intelligent so training is best achieved by being firm and consistent, and using lots of praise.

French Bulldog Grooming:

The French Bulldog's smooth short haired coat is easy to look after. A good brush a couple of times a week is advised to remove any dear hair. It is important to keep their nails trimmed to avoid impairing their walking ability, and to regularly check their eyes and ears and clean their facial wrinkles on a regular basis to keep them healthy.

French Bulldog Exercise Requirements:

For French Bulldogs a daily walk is recommended to maintain their fitness, however this should be avoided in hot weather. As French Bulldogs cannot swim due to their physique it is important to take care around backyard pools. If they are well socialised and outgoing, it is also a good idea to take them to parks or other pet friendly areas, where they can interact with other dogs and people.
