These large crabs have brightly coloured shells. As hermit crabs grow, they must move in to a larger shell to accommodate their expanding body size. In captivity, hermit crabs will readily move into painted shells. All our hermit crabs happily living in painted shells have voluntarily chosen to move into their shells and the colours used are non-toxic and completely safe for the crabs.
