There are a hundred reasons a dog ends up at 6 or 9 months without ever doing a puppy class - and we've heard most of them. Adolescent Dog Training is designed to fill that exact gap. It's not a "remedial" class for problem dogs. It's a structured, four-week catch-up for normal dogs who just need someone to show them (and you) the foundations everyone else got at eight weeks old.

Adolescent School is for catch-up. Not crisis.

It's worth being clear: this is a foundations class, taught at adolescent pace. If your dog has serious behavioural challenges -aggression, severe reactivity, separation distress - call us first; that's a different conversation, and a group class isn't always the right starting point.

Right fit if

Your dog is "normal but untrained."

Friendly, recovering rescue, late-starter pup, or a teenager who's hit the testing-limits phase. Sit/drop/recall don't mean much yet — but your dog is curious, food-motivated, and able to be in a room with other dogs.

There's something more going on.

We want every dog to succeed - and sometimes that means a group class isn't the right first step. Dogs dealing with serious lead reactivity, dog-to-dog aggression, biting beyond normal puppy mouthiness, severe anxiety, or a known behavioural diagnosis often do better in a private one-on-one setting first. Same day and time each week, indoors at our Beaumont Hills training room. The curriculum compresses what Puppy Preschool teaches over four weeks of socialisation into an adolescent-paced version that respects your dog's age and attention span.

Adolescent or Junior? Here's the rule of thumb.

Junior School assumes your dog already has the foundations from Puppy Preschool — it builds on sit, drop, and stay by adding distance, distraction, and duration. Adolescent Dog Training assumes nothing. It teaches those foundations from scratch, just at a slightly faster, more grown-up pace than Puppy Preschool. If you've done a puppy class and want to keep going, book Junior. If you haven't (or you've forgotten most of it), book Adolescent.

Donna teaches every Pet School class herself. After 30+ years and thousands of dogs, there's no "started late" she hasn't seen. Her dual qualification - Australian Accredited Canine Good Citizen Instructor and Qualified Vet Nurse + Nutrition Advisor - means she reads adolescent body language at a level most trainers don't, which matters when you've got a teenage dog who's testing, learning, and changing every week.

Adolescent School FAQ.

  • How old does my dog need to be?

    18 weeks and up. There's no upper limit -we've had two-year-olds and seniors in Adolescent classes. Older rescue dogs are very welcome.



  • My dog already knows some commands. Is the class too basic?

    Probably not. The bar for "knows sit" usually means "sits at home, in the kitchen, on a Tuesday afternoon, when nothing else is happening." Adolescent School proofs those commands under distraction and adds the ones most home-trained dogs are missing - release words, marker training, mat work, and recall under pressure.

  • What if my dog hasn't done any training at all?

    Perfect - this class is built for that. Week 1 starts from the absolute beginning. Bring a hungry dog, high-value treats, and a sense of humour.

  • What's the difference between Adolescent and Junior School?

    Junior is the natural follow-on for graduates of Puppy Preschool. Adolescent is the "I haven't done puppy class" version of the foundations. They overlap on a few topics, but the assumed starting point is different. If you didn't do Puppy Preschool, book Adolescent.

  • What if my dog is reactive on lead? Can they still come?

    Often yes, but please call us first on (02) 9629 3282. For dogs that bark or lunge at other dogs on lead, Donna may suggest a private session before joining the group, or recommend Scent School first to take the social pressure off.

  • What vaccinations does my dog need?

    Your dog needs to be currently vaccinated (C5 minimum, C7 preferred), wormed, and on heartworm prevention. Bring your vet certificate to Week 1.

  • Can I bring my kids?

    Children 16+ can participate. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and stay seated during exercises. Maximum two people per dog inside the training room. Training works best when one person leads and the rest observe - too many handlers and the dogs looks at all of you, instead of one of you. 


  • What if I miss a week?

    We'll try to catch you up the following week before class starts. If you'll miss two weeks or more, it's better to roll over to the next cohort - the lessons build and skipping the middle bits doesn't work well.

  • What's your refund policy?

    Bookings are non-refundable but may be transferable. To roll over to the next class or transfer your spot to a friend, emailhello@kellyvillepets.com.au at least 48 hours before Week 1.

  • Where exactly is the class held?

    Inside our Beaumont Hills store at 1-15 Millcroft Way - about 15 minutes from Castle Hill. Free parking on site. If your class starts outside opening hours - ie after 6pm, please enter via the back door near the loading dock. Look for the Pet School signage at the back of the store.

Terms & conditions.

  1. Class must be paid in full at time of booking.
  2. Classes are held inside Kellyville Pets, 1-15 Millcroft Way, Beaumont Hills NSW 2155. Please arrive 10 minutes before start time - classes start on time and won't be delayed. Classes are held upstairs and are only accessible via stairs.
  3. If your class is held between 9 am and 5.45 pm, please enter via the main store entrance and head to the back of the store. If your class is held from 6 pm onwards, please head to the loading dock area and enter via the back access door. There is a doorbell if the door is closed.
  4. Adolescent Dog Training is suitable for dogs aged 18 weeks and over. There is no upper age limit. Prior training is not required.
  5. Owners must provide a flat collar, front-clip harness, or head halter, plus a 1.2–1.8m fixed lead. Choke chains, prong collars, and retractable leads are not permitted in the training room.
  6. All dogs must be currently wormed and vaccinated (C5 minimum). Vaccination certificates must be sighted at Week 1.
  7. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Maximum two people per dog inside the training room.
  8. The trainer reserves the right to refuse any dog showing severe aggression, reactivity, or distress, and will recommend appropriate next steps (often a private session).
  9. Owners are responsible for any injury, illness, or property damage their dog may incur or cause during class.
  10. Bookings are non-refundable but transferable. Roll-overs and spot transfers must be requested at least 48 hours before Week 1 by emailing hello@kellyvillepets.com.au.

After Adolescent

Three good options once Week 4 wraps.

Most Adolescent graduates pick one of three. Trick School is for the dog who loved learning new commands and wants more - engagement-heavy and great for the bond. Scent School channels nervous energy or boredom into nose work - the only class that genuinely tires out a high-drive or anxious dog. Heeling School is three weeks of focused leadwork for the dog whose lead manners are still a battle. Donna will recommend one (or two) at graduation.
