All it takes is for you to place the gravel cleaner column in the aquarium and quickly begin moving it up and down a few times for the water to start flowing.

A plastic bracket inside the gravel & glass cleaners hose prevents any gravel from being sucked in. The fish tank gravel cleaner is also equipped with a glass cleaning attachment made of hard plastic.
