Fish Tanks for Sale in Every Size
Finding the right fish tank starts with the space you have, your fish choice and your experience level.
Nano and smaller ‘starter tanks’ suit tight spaces and desktop setups, making them great for smaller fish. Mid-sized tanks are a fantastic option for multiple fish and come with added features that make it easier for beginners to look after their new fish. Meanwhile, larger fish tanks are great for experienced owners looking to create a striking display and provide more swimming room for active species.

Starter Aquarium Kits vs Tank-Only Setups
Starter aquarium kits are designed for convenience. They include everything you need to get started, such as the fish tank, filtration, lighting and lid. Kits are ideal for beginners or anyone wanting a quick setup.
Tank-only set-ups are more popular with experienced aquarists who are looking to customise their tank down the line. By choosing tank-only, owners can pair specific filters, lights and heaters to suit their fish's specific needs.
Choosing the Right Fish Tank for Coldwater or Tropical Fish
It’s best to match the fish tank with the specific type of fish you have, as fish have varying temperature, filtration and swimming space needs. Small schooling fish, larger or more active species require more filtration and a dish tank with extra volume. Tropical fish need aquarium heaters to maintain optimal temperatures.
Glass vs Acrylic Tanks and Practical Features to Look For
Glass fish tanks are a popular home setup for their clarity and clean finish. Acrylic tanks are a lighter and more impact-resistant option that is extremely durable, perfect for larger setups.
When choosing a tank, look for practical features such as sturdy lids, cabinet compatibility and easy access for feeding or cleaning. To install safety, place your fish tank on a level, supported surface.

FAQs
What size fish tank should I buy as a beginner?
Consider your fish choice and available space. In general, we suggest a larger tank than a nano one, as bigger tanks are easier to keep stable.
Do fish tank kits come with everything I need?
Most kits include the fish tank, filter and lighting, with add-ons available such as substrate, water conditioners and test kits.
Can I get fish tanks delivered in Australia?
Many of our fish tanks are available for delivery or pick-up, depending on size and packaging requirements. Smaller tanks can often be shipped, but larger glass tanks that can’t be sent with Australia Post are available for Sydney Metro delivery or pick-up only.
For full delivery details, packaging requirements, and location limits, see our shipping FAQs.
How long does it take to set up a fish tank properly?
Rushing your fish into their tank can be harmful, so we recommend allowing at least a week for water cycling to ensure the conditions are right for your specific fish.
