Shmoodle

Shmoodle (Toy Poodle X Maltese-Shih Tzu) Breed Information:

Shmoodles are one of the most popular of the designer breeds due to their friendly temperaments, low activity level and small size. Shmoodles are popular as companions and therapy dogs. This adorable little breed is suitable for all ages and most lifestyles, but do not make good running companions as they will struggle to keep up.

Shmoodle Size/Weight:

Height: 25-35cm, Weight: 4-9kg

Shmoodle Life Span:

12-16 years

Shmoodle Temperament:

The Shmoodle is an affectionate, boisterous and playful breed. They generally do well in any type of home and are quite happy around children as well as other dogs and pets, given they have been properly socialized as a puppy. They are a playful and intelligent breed, however training them requires patience and consistency on the owners behalf. Being a smaller breed, the Shmoodle can be a fairly vocal breed. It is important to teach them from an early age that barking is not okay. If it is an issue that develops it is essential that it is dealt with before it becomes a habit. It is also important to remember not to 'baby' small breeds like Shmoodles, as they can become bossy and demanding - believing they are the top of the hierarchy in your home.

Shmoodle Grooming:

Shmoodles are a low shedding breed with a thick coat, so it is best to brush them every second day to avoid tangling or matting. During the summer especially, a clip is recommended every 6-8 weeks. It is important to keep their nails trimmed to avoid impairing their walking ability, and to regularly check their eyes and ears, and clean when necessary, to keep them healthy.

Shmoodle Exercise Requirements:

Due to their size, Shmoodles do not generally have high exercise requirements. A walk every few days as well as play time at home is generally sufficient.
