The Bichon Frise Poodle mix, also known as a Bichpoo or a Poochon, is a “designer” dog that’s aimed at melding the best characteristics of the Poodle with those of the Bichon Frise. Both the Poodle and the Bichon Frise are active dogs, so it will be no surprise that your Bichoodle will have a lot of energy to burn.

Bichoodle Temperament

Bichoodles are renowned for their gentle nature. They are an easy going, playful and sociable breed. The Bichoodle is an intelligent dog that loves human companionship and enjoys any attention you can give them. Due to their gentle nature they make a fantastic family dog, excellent with children and, as long as they have been socialised well, generally have no issues with other dogs. Whether its playing fetch in the backyard or curling up on your lap to watch television of an evening, Bichoodles will be happy as long as they're with you.

They are generally good around children, although due to their small size are not suited for young children. As Bichoodles can be quite vocal at times, it is important that they are taught from an early age that barking is not okay. If it is an issue that develops it is essential that it is dealt with before it becomes a habit.

Bichoodle Health Issues

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA): A group of retinal degeneration diseases that worsens over time and can lead to impaired vision or even blindness.

Patella Luxation: An abnormally shallow groove in the knee, which causes the knee cap (patella) to slip out of position.

Hypoglycemia: A drop in glucose levels which can result in a severe decrease in energy, sometimes to the point of loss of consciousness.

Bichoodle Grooming:

Grooming requirements for Bichoodles include a daily bush, as they have a thick curly coat that can become knotted easily. During the summer especially, a clip is recommended every 6-8 weeks. Like all dog breeds with floppy ears, Bichoodles need to have their ears properly dried after their bath, and regularly checked to avoid infections. Bichon Frise and Poodles are completely hypoallergenic breeds, so crossing them will mean they will not shed any fur. This is great for people with allergies.

Bichoodle Exercise Requirements:

As Bichoodles are not a very high energy dog, they don't need the strict exercise regime some other breeds do. A good walk a few times a week is generally enough, however if living in an apartment they would probably benefit from a walk every 1-2 days.
