Also known as Monk Parakeets, Quakers are famous for their intelligence, confidence and big character packed into a compact parrot. With their bright plumage, soft grey chest and expressive eyes, they’re as charming to look at as they are to live with. Quakers are highly social birds that form strong bonds with their people and love being involved in daily life, whether that’s chatting, playing, or supervising from a favourite perch.
Hand-raised from an early age, Quakers are confident, affectionate and interactive, often enjoying talking, learning tricks and showing off their clever problem-solving skills. They thrive on routine, enrichment and companionship, and are best suited to owners who can provide regular interaction and mental stimulation.
Quaker parrots are long-term and devoted companions. With good care, a balanced diet, regular enrichment and vet check-ups, they typically live 20–30 years, and it’s not unusual for well-cared-for Quakers to reach their early to mid-30s. They’re very much a “lifetime bird”, so adopting one is a long but incredibly rewarding commitment.
