Bearded Dragons require a wide variety of foods to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Without access to a complete and varied diet, plaque and tartar can build up leading to gum inflammation (also called gingivitis). As opposed to mammal teeth that are rooted into tooth sockets by ligaments, bearded dragon teeth are directly rooted into their jawbones, predisposing them to bone inflammation and infection. The best way to maintain healthy teeth and gums in your dragon is to feed to a good variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Veggies should not be cut too fine, allowing the lizards to crunch and chew their food which helps to clean their teeth and promote healthy jaw and bone structure.
